Abstract :The mesozoic deposits of southern Kitakami Mountains are seperated in several blocks by tectonic movements. The deposits of each block are divided into several formations by different authors based on vareous criteria, but stratisraphical correlations of these blocks remain disputable. The wrighter has been engaged in survey and study of mesozoic stratigraphy of this region. In this paper, the brief of stratigraphy of Hashiura-Jusanhama area is described. Detailed discussions for correlation and geological structure are prepared by the wrighter for further publication. Results of stratigraphy of this area are summarised in following table, in descending order : - Lower Cretaceous Jusanhama group Tategami formation Alternation of sandstone and shale with intercalated thin coaly shale. Thickness less than 80m. Tsukihama formation Sandstone with intercalated thin black shale layers, yielding brackish molluscan fossils and plant fossils. Thickness 250m. - Uncomformity - Mid. to Up.
