Title :The Upper Cretaceous System of Ibaraki and Fukushima Prefectures, Japan (Part 1)

Abstract :Geological and paleontological studies of the Nakaminato area in Ibaraki Prefecture and of the Futaba area in Fukushima Prefecture were undertaken for the purpose of finding their interrelationship with regard to geology, paleontology and sedimentary environment. The Cretaceous System was first discovered by the writer upon paleontological evidence and this lead to his study of the Nakaminato area, results of which are given in the present wor k. Stratigraphically the rocks distributed in the Nakaminato area were classified into the Naka group of Oarai formation and Nakaminato formation, the former terris trial and Upper Urakawan (Santonian) in age and the latter marine and Infrahetonaian to the lower part of the Upper Hetonaian (Campanian to lowest Maestrichtian) in age. These Cretaceous rocks were studied as to their paleontology and are overlain with significant unconformity by the Tertiary System which is fossiliferous and also subdivided into three formations corresponding to the
