Abstract :PURPOSE : With the progress in blast furnaces and direct methods of steel making, it has become necessary to make clear the mechanism of ore reduction in bed. In ore bed reduction, many tests are made in excess of ore. And then the mechanism of the reduction is somewhat different from that the reduction of ore lump. In ore reduction by CO at low temperature, the reaction of carbon deposition occurs violently. In a blast furnace, carbon deposit sometimes caused hanging. To clarify the kinetics of carbon deposition and reduction, this experiment was done in a stationary bed. METHOD : In a standard state, next factors were chosen ; ore--self-fluxing sinter, size-- 2.5-5mm, weight-- 50g, CO flow-- I Nl/min, temperature-- 900℃ for reduction and 550℃ for carbon deposition, and these factors were changed one by one. A 41mm inner diameter porcelain or 18-8 stainless steel combustion tube was used as a reduction tube. The furnace temperature was regulated automatically. Reduction degree and
